What does OCSP and CRL mean?

Online Certificate Status Protocol, known as OCSP, is a method for determining the validity status of an X.509 digital certificate using other means than the use of CRL (Certificate Revocation Lists). This protocol is described in RFC 6960 and is in the Internet standards registry.

When a verification is performed the certificate or certificates used for the signature must be analyzed, including its certification chain, indicating for each
the result obtained from their respective sources of validation: OCSP and/or CRL.
